Class Dismissed: RPG Blog Carnival Wrap-up
Pencil’s down – that’s September gone and done with! It’s been a busy month around here with lots of progress towards upcoming projects and many words written. Let’s see what everyone came up with!
First up, we have Gonz from Codex Anathema‘s first stage of adapting the excellent Candlekeep Mysteries to Eberron in EducaciĆ³n Arcana 101! While Spanish isn’t my strong suit (it’s been many years since I’ve had to use my limited skills in the language) and I likely missed a lot of the specifics in my Google translation of the article, I enjoyed what I read of the unique spin on adapting the setting by selecting the Arcane Congress’ headquarters instead of the suggestions from the book and the take on ensuring the characters were well fitted to the adventure by giving them a reason to be involved in the form of being – for the most part – students. This is well worth a read as a general idea of how to get characters involved as students and as a good layout for an academic environment as a setting in general – including an interesting downtime activity.
Next comes Rodney from Rising Phoenix Games with an interesting take on how to build your GM skills in Wanna Be a Great GM? Get an Education! Eschewing the traditional educational approach, Rodney instead argues for building life experiences to fuel the engines of creativity. I’ll leave most of that to Rodney’s entry to explain but it is an interesting thought as opposed to the constant research I often see argued as the best way to build a great setting.
And lastly I visit (potentially) the greatest magical school in all of Nareah in A Place of Great Learning: The Feuerschwanz Academy. This is a place I’ve always wanted to visit in one of my Nareah games but we’ve always come up just short of actually getting there; I’m tempted to one day specifically set a game that involves students of the academy but that would be somewhere on the horizon. Covering a bit of history of the school and some modern day information, my write-up is a good quick primer to the school.
And that’s that! Another RPG Blog Carnival all wrapped up. It’s time to pass you forward to the next host. We’re in to October now and the air is getting chilly… and the denizens of the Other Side are coming out of hiding for their revels. Steel your heart and dive into the heart of horror…
